This no-hitter tonight was different than others. Not only did six pitchers combine to throw it, but every person went out of their way to do what needed to be done. Figgin’s throw, Ichiro’s steal that put him in scoring position, Kyle’s hit, Furbush coming in without warmups, Brandon League getting a big K with RISP, Millwood going 6 strong, and Brendan’s stellar play in the 9th. Every player stood out but also came together for the win, which really shows how the Mariners are truly becoming a team and playing like a team, with one goal: win ballgames!
OUR KING IS BETTER THAN YOUR KING(S)
King Felix is back and he’s not just back because he pitched against a mediocre team, he’s back and pitched a stellar game against the best offense in baseball.
He left reigning leader in every offensive stat Josh Hamilton hitless (ending his hitting streak) and twice K’d, on his birthday no less.
More impressive, for this team, was the Mariner’s sparkling offensive performance against the best the Rangers have to offer: Yu Darvish. M’s turned 5 hits into 6 runs by drawing 7 walks and hitting when it counted. The boys looked patient and powerful at the plate. And against the top team in the league, that is a very very happy thought.
Incredible game. This is the kind of game that will put this blog out of business. Not a problem at all.
